If you have a flair for the funky, tall tales and impressive feats of human achievement then you’ll love the blog we’ve put together for you today. From the biggest to balls, to the most players, the largest human-spun Bingo ball cage and even the highest game of Bingo in the world; here are the world of Bingo’s record-breaking moments
1. Biggest Ever Bingo Games
There have been many attempts at record-breakingly big games, but only two hold the record, one for live Bingo, the other for an online game.
Live Game: This record has been firmly in the grip of Alamacenes (a chain store in Colombia) since 2006 when they organised a live game with 70,080 participants!
Online: The title for the Biggest Online Game goes to Coca-Cola. Awarded in 2010, when they smashed previous records, setting the new world title for the Biggest Online Game of Bingo. They had just under half a million players (493,824) taking part online in Tokyo, Japan!
2. Largest Bingo Card
This record was claimed in April 2019 by Gila River Hotel and Casino in the States. The Bingo card was 37.16m² (6x6m).
Previous holders of this record were Gala (in 2014 when they played a game with a 5x2m card) and then The Sun (in 2017, played with a 4x4m card). Gila River went go on to smash through the record, beating both these records.
3. Biggest Bingo Balls
Gila River Hotel broke two records on the same day, by creating not only the world’s biggest card but also balls, which measured over 121cm in diameter- what a double whammy! The Gila River event was thrown to celebrate their 25th anniversary and certainly went-off with a record-breaking bang. The jackpot prize for the lucky winner of this colossal game was $25,000!
Gila River may hold the world record, but if we look exclusively to British balls, then The Sun holds the UK record for largest at the size of 75x70cm.
What’s more, looking for celebrity record-setters? Then the cast and crew of Coronation Street take the crown. Take a look at their epic game.
4. Highest Elevation Game
Hats-off to the group of 24 die-hard fans who set off to play the world’s highest elevation game of Bingo at Everest Base Camp, 17,500 ft above sea level. The extraordinary feat of human achievement was a record-breaking challenge. Reaching Everest Base Camp usually takes most trekkers 14 days, and is no walk in the park, but at least this group could look forward to a relaxing game of 90-ball when they reached the top. Taken on as part of a fundraising effort for Sue Ryder Care, this is certainly a world record to impress!
5. Largest Human-operated Bingo Drum
In 2017, XFLAG™ Studio in Japan snapped up the world record for the largest Bingo Dum. At 3.05 m in diameter and 3.037 m in width, it took a total of five people and two callers to operate the drum which was used in a New Year bash.
A Homegrown Hero: The Tallest Dauber Tower & Longest Time to Balance Bingo Balls
We couldn’t sign-off without a special mention to the homegrown record-breaker, Doug MacManaman (also known as the Balance King) who holds the titles for the Tallest Dauber Tower, Longest Time to Balance Bingo Balls on a pole on his chin (almost one minute), and Largest Game in an Office (along with many others)! Good effort Doug!
